Bhutanese Cordyceps Sinensis is a genus of parasitic fungus that feeds on insects and other arthropods. Each Cordyceps species generally infects a particular insect. There are over 600 species in the genus, which may be found worldwide. The most well-known Cordyceps species is Cordyceps Sinensis (now formally known as Ophiocordyceps Sinensis), which infects the larva of the Hepialus moth and is often regarded as the World’s Most Expensive Parasite.

Cordyceps in Bhutan is known as ‘Yartsa Goenbub.’ (Meaning summer grass, winter worms).
